Dev Update: Card Effects!


Wow, a lot has changed since the last update! And yet I still keep finding bugs that push this update further away! New update coming soon, I promise.

Here's what I developed in the time between then and now:

  • Shop Improvements: You can now cycle through your own deck in the shop (so you're not limited to the 10 you have from the start) and you can reroll the shop deck for a cost! Both shops share reroll costs, so if you reroll in one you must pay the extra cost to reroll in another
  • Unlock Screen: You now see what you unlocked from passing certain XP milestones!
  • Universal Suit Effects: Certain passive stat increasing suit effects can now be found as suit effects for all four suits. However, the original suit effects were buffed to retain their original theming.
  • Hand Size: You can now increase your hand size via an upgrade.
  • Foresight: You can now see your enemy's hand through an upgrade.
  • Ending Round: The ending round now changes between difficulties (you can still manually modify the ending round through the modifier.)
  • Endless Mode: You can now continue the run past the ending round in an endless mode! Your high score gets stored in your save file and is displayed in the run selection screen.
  • Card Effects: This is the biggest new improvement. Cards can now spawn in the shop with secondary effects. You can hover over the cards to see what they do!

Future improvements will include:

  • The Treasure Chest will now actually be able to give you cards with effects to justify its existence.
  • Various tutorial improvements to make the playing experience as smooth as possible.
  • Add a modifier to increase or decrease how often cards with effects show up.
  • Allow for a way (or ways) to add effects to existing cards from your deck.
  • Fixing various bugs.
